World of Opportunity: A spotlight on some of EWB’s 2009 fundraisers
27 November, 2009 @ 16:13
The World of Opportunity campaign has been live now for almost 2 weeks now, and together we have raised over $ 33,000! Reaching our goal of $ 500,000 will ensure that EWB can unleash the entrepreneurial potential of rural Africans on a widespread scale throughout 2010.
In the last few weeks we have had almost 200 fundraisers sign on! Here are just a few of their stories:
Harish Raisinghani
President, Vancouver Professional Chapter
Harish has literally taken the plunge to fundraise for EWB... or at least he plans to on January 1. Harish is so dedicated to raising $1,000 by December 31, that he has committed to braving the cold Pacific waters for 1 minute at Vancouver's annual New Year's Polar Bear Dip!
“What a better way to kick-start the year by jumping into 3°C water in nothing but a Speedo? I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t believe in the cause EWB represents or know first-hand of the incredibly high impact my networks’ donation dollars have in this organization.”

Mike Klassen
Co-President, University of Toronto chapter
Last year Mike participated in the Gift of Opportunity campaign, and like so many others worked incredibly hard to fundraise for EWB’s efforts throughout this past year. Now, Mike is ‘on the road to raising $5,000’ with his World of Opportunity campaign – and has even made a video to reflect his goals!
“I put an unbelievable amount of time, energy and passion into EWB because I can, and because I want to. Last year at this time I campaigned and raised over $2,300 dollars - this year I’m planning to more than double that amount. I see it as an opportunity to reflect the rays of African leadership and potential to my network here in Canada.”

Todd Phillips
Member Outreach and Advocacy, Winnipeg Professional chapter
Todd Phillips is one of our newer fundraisers for 2009. He has a growing enthusiasm for EWB’s work influencing the Canadian government’s contribution to overseas development – so this is the priority area which Todd has decided to highlight. In sharing his passion for EWB’s advocacy work with his network Todd has almost reached his campaign goal of $ 250!
“Most of my family and friends know about my commitment to working overseas and my belief in EWB as a development organization. Many of them have supported EWB a lot already by coming to socials and events, and for that I thank them. They now managed to give more, which has been really exciting.”
