Fair Trade is an important part of unleashing lasting economic opportunity in communities all across Africa. Fair Trade Certification guarantees that farmers and artisans working tirelessly to produce high-quality products are being paid an equitable wage, in safe and sustainable working conditions.
For thousands of famers and their families, Fair Trade often represents the difference between living in poverty and being able to feed and school their children on an ongoing basis. By purchasing Fair Trade products, we as Canadians have the power to help these rural families’ live prosperous lives.
And Valentine’s Day is a great time to start creating change! Instead of the flowers and chocolate that you are sure to buy this Sunday, make a lasting difference for developing communities by ensuring they are Fair Trade Certified.
With this in mind, EWBers are taking action to share the simple ways to make Valentine’s Day Fair Trade. At our Waterloo chapter, students sold chocolate produced with Fair Trade cocoa all day Friday, to inform – and sweeten – those around them.
In Montreal, this past week EWBers at Concordia shocked some of their classmates by selling Fair Trade roses – many people were excited to learn that they existed. While sharing the growing reach of Fair Trade products, the Concordia chapter even managed to sell over 150 roses!
This Valentine’s Day you can take action right alongside us. Buy Fair Trade products such as flowers and chocolate, and give hard-working Africans the opportunity to improve their lives on a broad scale. It’s easy – just use our Fair Trade Finder to locate products near you!
