African Development Comes to Canada

A new EWB program is launching a 180 degree reversal of our traditional approach. Instead of sending Canadian leaders to African communities, we're bringing African Leaders here. EWB’s African Leadership Program (ALP) is designed to create better collaboration between Canadians and Africans by ensuring that relationship isn't a one-way street.

Celebrating Smart, Canadian Aid

For more than a year, EWB, it's members and supporters have been engaging with the federal government, making the case for Canada to sign on to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI). On Monday night, those efforts paid off at the High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan, South Korea, where Minister Oda announced that Canada will join 22 other leading donors and sign on to IATI.

Positive Impact... Served frozen, at 100 mph

A few months ago, we got together with our friends at Public Inc. to think up some smart ways to connect Canadians to Africa. During a lull in the conversation, when people were running out of energy, Goerge Roter, EWB’s CEO shared a story about driving by GM place in Vancouver in October 2009, and smiling at the thought of a puck made of fair trade rubber being used to score the winning goal of the 2010 Olympic gold medal hockey game.

Thousands Tell The World to Adopt IATI Now

In a 36 hour time period, beginning on Tuesday July 5th, 2,812 people signed EWB's online petition asking governments to make foreign aid more transparent and effective. Those signatures were combined with 2,200 others from around the world, and presented to the co-chairs of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Working Party on Aid Effectiveness during a major donor conference in Paris, France.

Run To End Poverty Vancouver 2011 – A Huge Success!

On Sunday June 26th, the Run To End Poverty (R2EP) Vancouver team took the Scotiabank 5k and Half-Marathon races by storm - more than 120 runners participated in the event, together raising $21,000 to support EWB's Water & Sanitation program in Malawi!
