Building water systems, not just wells - Dan Olsen in OSPE's Society Notes

Dan Olsen, EWB's Team Leader for the Rural Infrastructure program in Ghana, writes in this month's Society Notes that Ghana needs water systems, not just wells. He writes:

When a project need is identified, it is simply expected that infrastructure projects will set up the necessary systems for the infrastructure to be fully utilized. Most projects tag on short training programs to develop lasting systems, but end up facilitating isolated workshops that don’t provide the necessary continuous support. Until the systemic issues are addressed when implementing infrastructure like clean water, projects will continue to fail the most vulnerable communities who need services like clean water the most.
