In the News | Canadian engineers test problem-solving skills in Africa

"In a world of fiercely competitive charities, George Roter refuses to jazz up his sales pitch.

“We bring our problem-solving approach to systemic failures that are holding back African prosperity, not the symptoms,” the president of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) tells audiences. “This might sound boring — and it is.

“It’s not sexy. But it works.”

"The 34-year-old mechanical engineer then tells the story of the tiny non-profit organization he and fellow graduate Parker Mitchell cofounded 10 years ago in a north Toronto coffee shop. It has now mobilized 10,000 engineers to tackle extreme poverty in Africa."
