Run To End Poverty Vancouver 2011 – A Huge Success!
On Sunday June 26th, the Run To End Poverty (R2EP) Vancouver team took the Scotiabank 5k and Half-Marathon races by storm - more than 120 runners participated in the event, together raising $21,000 to support EWB's Water & Sanitation program in Malawi! With nearly 100 runners, R2EP has continued to expand its reach and appeal to the broader community to build support for EWB's capacity building approach to development.
The R2EP Corporate Challenge attracted ten local companies and two high school groups to raise more than $14,000 towards the fundraising total. In first place, the BC Hydro team attracted 31 runners and raised $4500, while the runner up KPMG team raised more than $3300. Deloitte, Boreal Genomics, Run For A Cause, AMBiT Consulting, TRI Technology Resource Inc, Eaton Arrowsmith School, Associated Engineering, Genivar/PBK Architects, Golder Associates, and Gladstone Secondary also strongly supported the challenge, together contributing $6400 to the total. Thank you to all of the teams and team leaders for their hard work and dedication to R2EP over the last few months.
Special Thanks goes out to our premier sponsor, Fair Trade Vancouver, for their generous support with prizes and fantastic volunteers on race day! And to Ethical Bean, Capilano Suspension Bridge, Grind Athletix, Fit To Train, Baguette and Co., Level Ground Trading Co, and Kicking Horse Coffee for their sponsorship and prizes this year.
Finally, thank-you to all of our R2EP runners and volunteers for their energy, passion, and motivation that helped make this year a tremendous success!
