Liz Ashby in Ghana
Greetings from Ghana!
After completing my B.Sc. from McGill University, I was extremely excited to have the opportunity to venture from my hometown of Vancouver to volunteer overseas with Engineers Without Borders.
My interest in international development was sparked in university by my participation in an interdisciplinary program run based in East Africa. This experience exposed me to a whole host of exciting new ideas and gave me the opportunity to meet a great number of people, whose hard work towards a brighter future for themselves and their families inspired me. I am extremely excited to facilitate homegrown development strategies that capitalize on the strengths of communities.
I am working in Ghana in partnership with Africa 2000 Network (A2N), a pan-African non-governmental organisation recognized for its excellence in community-driven development. The Sustainable Livelihoods Project, on which I am working, introduces an asset-based framework for community development to government field workers, has the potential to impact marginalized communities as well as the public sector.
