Almost 1,000 EWB supporters send holiday messages to our overseas volunteers!
24 December, 2009 @ 13:32
The holidays are a great time to let those around us know how much we value their work – and our volunteers are certainly no exception. Over the last week, we asked EWB’s supporters to send a holiday message to almost 40 volunteers working overseas in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi and Zambia.
Our volunteers work incredibly hard, in often challenging conditions, to create opportunities for rural Africans to greatly improve their lives. The work they do is helping to unleash entrepreneurship, improve infrastructure, and bring clean water to even the most remote communities. They are an inspiration to us all!
With this in mind, almost 1,000 friends, family, engineers, partners and chapter members came together to share their holiday wishes and words of hope, admiration and encouragement. The messages were incredibly heartwarming, some of which we wanted to share with you:
“Happy holidays from Markham, Ontario. I know what it's like to be away from family during the holidays as my career takes me abroad. But know that we are very proud of our EWB volunteers. You are doing great things to help others this holiday and you will be a role model for years to come.”
“You guys are an inspiration to all of us. Thanks so much for opening our eyes and showing us how engineers can make a difference in the world!”
“Thank you for your generous contribution to making the world a better place! Not everyone would have the drive (or the guts) to spend time in the developing world when they could be basking with a pile of presents here in North America - your courage and dedication is appreciated and admired! Find a way to make this holiday special, even if you can't be with the ones you love.”
Thank you to everyone who shared their holiday messages with our volunteers. They have now had the chance to read the words which were sent their way – and the response has been one of awe and excitement. More than ever, they are now looking forward to creating lasting change in 2010!
