EWB chapter member Erica Barnes featured in leading engineering publication

Erica Barnes, EWB member and 3rd year civil engineering student at McMaster University, was recently featured in the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers’ quarterly print publication called The Voice.

The Voice is Ontario Engineers’ primary publication for promoting and advocating for the engineering profession, and widely read throughout Ontario.

The article focuses on EWB’s work with global engineering at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario – and specifically Erica’s important leadership role equipping her fellow engineering students to serve the world as professional engineers.

In the article, Erica insightfully notes, "A global engineer is someone who is given a problem, recognizes there may be a simple technical solution, but still thinks about the social, environmental, and economic implications."

Thanks to the work of Erica and others at McMaster, Ontario’s professional engineers are sitting up and taking note. As the article concludes, the shift towards global engineering is “poised to have a big impact in the coming year on the faculty's students – and the profession as a whole.”
