Halsall becomes a sustaining sponsor
In the fall of 2005, Halsall Associates Ltd. became a sustaining sponsor of EWB with a total commitment of $25,000 contributed over the next five years. This contribution will provide important funds to support EWB volunteers overseas.
Halsall is now one of twelve sustaining sponsors. This group, recognized for the first time in the 2005 Annual Report, is made up of organisations that have made long-term financial commitments to EWB. Their contributions are providing secure funding that we can count on in years to come, enabling EWB to more accurately plan our overseas operations in advance.
Halsall became a sustaining sponsor in 2005 to not only recognize the important work of Canadian engineers overseas, but also the contributions of EWB to the Canadian engineering profession. According to Scott Demark, a Project Manager at Halsall's Ottawa office, "EWB attracts exactly the kind of engineers that Halsall needs. The people at EWB have a fully developed sense of technology's role in human terms, not just economic terms, and they have the passion and commitment to deliver value to the world."
Scott, who attended EWB's National Conference in Ottawa last month, believes that "people who have an understanding of sustainability are better able to provide value-added engineering to clients." Having met delegates at the conference, he claims that EWB members are within a very select group of people who bring energy, ethics, experience and passion to their work which will enable them to make important contributions to the profession.
Brendan Baker, a former overseas volunteer and EWB's newest member on our Board of Directors, as well as a Halsall employee, helped to forge the relationship. Brendan, also a member of EWB's Vancouver Professional Chapter, believes that EWB's growing number of professional members can play an important role in helping to drive similar sustained funding arrangements.
"This type of arrangement is a great example of how professional engineers can have impact in Canada. The ability for EWB members to bring the ideas and challenges of development to their workplaces and help their co-workers and companies contribute is growing with every EWB member that graduates from university."
EWB hopes that as our professional membership continues to grow, more new linkages between EWB and engineering firms will soon be formed; a trend that has the potential to secure a significant and sustainable funding base from Canada's engineering community.
Thank you to Halsall for their on-going support.
